This course is ideal for anyone wanting a career in the Optical Health sector of the national health service or in high street opticians.

Core Content:

The core component provides a broad understanding of the construction industry and covers the following topics:

  • All students will develop a general understanding of health and science: working within the health and science sector 
  • health, safety and environmental regulations 
  • managing information and data
  • principles of good scientific and clinical practice 
  • core science concepts including the structure of cells, tissues and large molecules, genetics, microbiology and immunology

The core components are assessed through two written examinations in year 1.

Students will also learn about topics specific to health, including:

  • understanding the healthcare sector 
  • providing person-centred care 
  • supporting health and wellbeing

These will be assessed through a controlled case study assessment which gives the student the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge that they have learned and devise a care plan for a patient.

Career Pathways.

A Healthcare T Level in Optometry could support progression on to a wide variety of degree courses, such as:

•Optometry Degree MOptom (Hons)
•Ophthalmic assistant
•Ophthalmic technician
•Ophthamologist
