At A2, the specification offers students the opportunity to further develop the knowledge and practical skills from AS. Students will continue to develop a body of coursework alongside an understanding of the processes and procedures of commercial production and manufacture.

Complementary Subjects.

Product Design goes well with many subjects. If you want a career in Design and Engineering routes you might consider Science and Maths A-Levels to Business Studies and vocational pathways.

Career Pathways.

Product Design could take you into a number of exciting career paths. Of course there’s product or automotive design - but what about CAD or animation? This course could take you into architecture, teaching, manufacturing, advertising or engineering.

Product Design gives you the chance to experiment with different ideas whilst exploring how they can be manufactured. We had the chance to work on projects with real clients such as Artemide and Aston University.

PROD3 Design and Manufacture
50% of total A2 marks
Written Exam 2 hours (84 marks)
Based primarily on Design and Manufacture and consisting of two sections
Students answer three questions: one question from three in each section, plus a final question from either section
PROD4 Design and Making Coursework
50% of total A2 marks
60 hours (85 marks)
